Grading Each First Round Pick of the 2021 NFL Draft

1. Jacksonville Jaguars- Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson

Grade: A+

Who I would have taken: Trevor Lawrence

Lawrence was the most obvious pick in the draft if they had taken anyone but him it automatically becomes an F.

2. New York Jets- Zach Wilson, QB, BYU

Grade: A

Who I would have taken: Zach Wilson

Again this pick might have been contradictory for the simple fact that I'm just not a big believer in Zach Wilson. He is 0-11 against teams with a winning record and if I was the jets I would have taken Fields in a blink of an eye,

3. San Francisco 49ers- Trey Lance, QB, NDSU

Grade: B+

Who I would have taken: Trey Lance

While this doesn't make much sense as I give this a B+ even if Trey Lance was the ideal pick this is simply because in my opinion we could have traded up to like number 10 and Lance would have still been available. i don't believe that trading two future first-rounders was worth it/.

4. Atlanta Falcons- Kyle Pitts, WR/TE, Florida

Grade: A+

Who I would have taken: Kyle Pitts

The most talented offensive player in this draft by a mile and a half Pitts will be extremely successful in an offense with Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley.

5. Cincinnati Bengals- JaMarr Chase, WR, LSU

Grade: A+

Who I would have taken: JaMarr Chase

A perfect combination from buddies at LSU to buddies again in the Bengals.

6. Miami Dolphins- Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama

Grade: B-

Who I would have taken: Penei Sewell

I absolutely love Jaylen Waddle, but I totally think they should have taken Sewell here. With Parker and Fuller already on the roster and the O-Line being very weak taking the best OT in 10 years would have made a lot of sense.

7. Detroit Lions- Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon

Grade: A

Who I would have taken: Justin Fields

At this point whoever the Lions draft never ends up playing well but I believe this year is different since their offensive line is already solid with Frank Ragnow the highest-paid lineman leading the pack adding a talented rookie in the mix might have just been the move.

8. Carolina Panthers- Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina

Grade: C-

Who I would have taken: Justin Fields

Really doesn't make sense to me at all taking a cornet this early is like signing a deal with the devil disagree? Look where Jeff Okudah is now.

9. Denver Broncos- Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama

Grade: C+

Who I would have taken: Justin Fields

Doesn't makes any sense at all to me when this team could have gotten a great QB like Justin Fields.

10. Philadelphia Eagles- Devonta Smith, WR, Alabama

Grade: B+

Who I would have taken: Rashawn Slater

The Eagles were playing all the teams so well almost going to jail by who they robbed the Cowboys and the Dolphins and then all of that for Devonta Smith.

11. Chicago Bears- Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State

Grade: A+++

Who I would have taken: Justin Fields

Justin Fields was in fact the best pick in the draft. The Bears moved up and made a splash to get their QB of the future, who could very well be the best Bears QB ever. Are the Bears NFC North Favorites? Probably not but maybe in the next couple of years.

12. Dallas Cowboys- Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State

Grade: C-

Who I would have taken: Caleb Farley

This is the worst spot in the draft to be in for any team, especially the Cowboys. Farley was the best pick here, but even he was loaded with question marks. I like the scheme fit as this scheme doesn't ask a ton from the LBs in coverage, but I don’t know that he fits the team well with Smith and Vander Esch already on the roster.

13. Los Angeles Chargers- Rashawn Slater, OL, Northwestern

Grade: A-

Who I would have taken: Rashawn Slater

Protect Herbert at all costs. At the worst, Slater is a very good interior O-Lineman in the NFL, and his pass protection ability is elite. This is the pick 90% of people would make, a very easy and good pick.

14. New York Jets- Alijah Vera-Tucker, OL, USC

Grade: C-

Who I would have taken: Caleb Farley

I don’t love the trade-up and I don’t love the player either. It's a reach and really just not in love with this selection. Tucker will likely slide in at guard for the Jets on day one, so I can't hate on it too much.

15. New England Patriots- Mac Jones, QB, Alabama

Grade: A-

Who I would have taken: Mac Jones

Mac is extremely accurate and has all the feel of a future facilitator next year. I have faith in Jones for the future, but the Physical tools may limit the Patriots in the future. I fully expect Cam to start this whole year while Mac Jones gets on a diet, we will see how this all plays out for the pats.

16. Arizona Cardinals- Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa

Grade: C

Who I would have taken: Caleb Farley

This pick is very questionable as the Cardinals already chose an LB last year and on the second play of his first NFL game, he let an 84-yard touchdown.

17. Las Vegas Raiders- Alex Leatherwood, OL, Alabama

Grade: D-

Who I would have taken: Christian Darrisaw

I think this is definitely the biggest reach so far in the draft. Alex Leatherwood is battle-tested in the SEC, but his game is severely lacking as he does not have a great feel for pass blocking. Likely a guard in the NFL and a reach-in most people's books.

18. Miami Dolphins- Jaelan Phillips, ED, Miami

Grade: B

Who I would have taken: Christian Darrisaw

Phillips is a very good edge rusher and if his medicals check out, this could even be considered a steal. I would have liked protecting Tua more, but this is a good pick as well. This pick keeps Phillips in Miami and fills a big need with the departures of Shaq Lawson and Kyle Van Noy.

19. Washington Football Team- Jamin Davis, LB, Kentucky

Grade: D

Who I would have taken: Rashod Bateman

Absurd athlete at the linebacker position added to the best front 7 in the NFL. More athleticism on that defense is scary. However, I think they needed to go with an offensive player like Bateman or Darrisaw.

20. New York Giants- Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida

Grade: C

Who I would have taken: Rashod Bateman

Kadarius Toney may not be the most loved player on this app, but he adds juice that nobody else in the draft has. Toney is a unique player who adds even more to this offense as a WR3 in this scheme.

21. Indianapolis Colts- Kwity Paye, ED, Michigan

Grade: A

Who I would have taken: Christian Darrisaw

Kwity Paye is an elite athlete who can be a great edge rusher for the Colts. I love Kwity Paye and this is an amazing pick for the Colts. I would prefer Darrisaw, but you can’t dislike what Paye brings to the table in terms of raw athleticism and production.

22. Tennessee Titans- Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech

Grade: A+

Who I would have taken: Caleb Farley

I love Farley and he might be the best CB in this entire draft class. If the medicals check out, he could be the best pick in the draft outside of Fields. Position of need meets the best player available, let's just pray that his back is healthy.

23. Minnesota Vikings- Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech

Grade: A+

Who I would have taken: Christian Darrisaw

The Vikings traded back, picked up more assets, and got their guy at 23. Good lord what a great pick and a steal for the Vikings. Darrisaw will slot in at LT for the Vikings and fills may be the biggest need in the draft of any team.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers- Najee Harris, RB, Alabama

Grade: D-

Who I would have taken: Teven Jenkins

An RB in the first round is puke. However, this is not the worst pick in the draft and they did need an RB, it is just such a bad move value-wise for the Steelers. What else would you expect from a team that is still living in 2003?

25. Jacksonville Jaguars- Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson

Grade: C+

Who I would have taken: Trevon Moehring

Well… I thought Najee was a bad pick. I can not comprehend what the Jaguars were thinking with this pick, they already have an RB1, and they plan on using James Robinson as that RB1. Etienne feels exactly like a 3rd round type of pick, in the first round.

26. Cleveland Browns- Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern

Grade: B+

Who I would have taken: Christian Barmore

While I would have loved them to just keep building that D-Line with a pick like Christian Barmore, I still love this pick. Newsome will definitely help they're secondary improve and they are just killing it this offseason. Browns are seriously becoming Super Bowl contenders.

27. Baltimore Ravens- Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota

Grade: A+

Who I would have taken: Rashod Bateman

I like it a ton. What a snag, Bateman all the way down here is a great grab for the Ravens. Bateman brings something to this offense that they severely lack and that is the ability to win with separation on the outside or in the slot.

28. New Orleans Saints- Peyton Turner, ED, Houston

Grade: D-

Who I would have taken: Terrace Marshall Jr.

I knew this draft would have one weird Edge rusher reach, but I figured it would be Joe Tryon. Turner is a 3rd round talent in my opinion and the Saints don’t need him at all. Very confusing pick in my opinion.

29. Green Bay Packers- Eric Stokes Jr., CB, Georgia

Grade: D

Who I would have taken: Whoever Aaron Wants

There are like 40 players I would rather have than Eric Stokes. I had a mid-3rd round grade on him and I really just do not like this pick at all. He is fast, but to quote Darrius Butler “He will get cooked by good route runners”. I hate it in the short term.

30. Buffalo Bills- Greg Rousseau, iDL, Miami

Grade: B+

Who I would have taken: Jayson Oweh

Rousseau is a basketball player on a football field. He is a developmental guy on the D-Line, but he has some absurd physical tools that you just cannot teach. Very weird player, but a lot of promising potential if you can unlock it.

31. Baltimore Ravens- Jayson Oweh, ED, Penn State

Grade: B+

Who I would have taken: Teven Jenkins

I really like Oweh on the edge, he is yet another freak athlete who has ridiculous potential. I would have preferred someone to protect Lamar Jackson, but with this much athleticism, you have to love Oweh here.

32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Joe Tryon, ED, Washington

Grade: D+

Who I would have taken: Christian Barmore

I don’t think Tryon is very good, but the Buccaneers have the luxury for a pick like this. Tryon has all the athletic traits, he is just super raw so he will need a lot of work before he becomes a starter for an NFL team.
